The Uttarakhand government will grant Rs five crore each to the District Magistrates before rains to deal with any emergency during a disaster, an official said.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued instructions to this effect while chairing a meeting of the state disaster management authority here.
Rawat said local people should be trained to deal with disasters, andrelief and safetyequipment should be made available at the local level.
He also called for strengthening of the incident response system (IRS) and early warning system to minimise losses.
"Special care should be taken of disaster prone areas. Areas vulnerable to earthquakes should also be identified and methods of effective disaster management and relief in those areas should be implemented," he said.
