Resident doctors of Jammu today extended support to woman doctor Gurmeet Kour, who was allegedly harassed by state health minister Chowdhary Lal Singh, by deciding not to wear aprons and threatening to resign en masse.

"The resident doctors association Government medical college and associated hospitals Jammu today unanimously decided to support our colleague the aggrieved lady doctor, Dr Gurmeet Kour who was treated inhumanely by the Minister who is supposed to be our caretaker," Dr Neeraj Sharma President of Resident Doctors Association (RDA), Government Medical College and associated hospitals said.

He said the doctors association in Jammu which has more than 500 active members has decided not to wear apron.

"A lady doctor was harassed and as a mark of protest we have decided not to wear apron till proper dress code is established in all health institution across the state," he said.

The doctors associations have appealed to the Prime Minister of the country and Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and the Governor to reign in the minister or they will be forced to resign en masse, he said.

"If no action is taken and the arrogant behavior of the minister is not controlled, we will start resigning en masse to protest this," he said.

He said that the doctors have decided to hold a peaceful protest march from GMC Jammu to civil secretariat on Monday to protest against the alleged misbehaviour with the female doctor.

The doctors association alleged that the promises made by the health minister to provide security to the doctors in the hospital have not been fulfilled.

"There is no security for the doctors. Barring four to five pot-bellied private security personnel there is no security for the doctors," said Dr Zaheer Khan executive member of RDA.

Kour has alleged that Lal Singh misbehaved with her for not wearing an apron during an official function and filed a complaint, which was rejected by police.
