Docs at city hospital allege manhandling; suspend work

A section of resident doctors at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital here "suspended work" today alleging "unruly behaviour" by family members of a woman patient who died there.

A pregnant patient with pain in abdomen had come to the Gynaecology Department at 1.30 am. She developed some respiratory problem and started gasping. Despite doctors giving possible appropriate treatment her condition deteriorated and she lated collapsed, a senior resident doctor claimed.

"The relatives and attendants of the deceased then started abusing the staff and doctors. They threw chairs and few bottles of normal saline on us," the doctor alleged.
 

A case has been registered in this regard, Medical Superintendent of LNJP Hospital, Y K Sarin said.

"There was some mishandling with the nursing orderly and other hospital staff last night, " he alleged.

"We will make ensure that such incidents do not happen in future. I hope that doctors and nursing orderly resume their work from tomorrow," Sarin said.

The resident doctors also demanded to enhance security staff at the hospital premises.
