An orthopaedic surgeon has been booked here for alleged negligence after a 14-year-old boy lost his hand due to a botched treatment last year in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said today.

The accused surgeon identified as Dr Rajendra Sahu has been booked under IPC section338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) based on a report of District Medical Board (DMB) last evening, City Kotwali's Station House Officer Yadumani Sidar said.

As per the report, Asha Nath, a native of Fokatpara on Sarvamangla Road, had taken her son Jainendra to Dr Sahu's hospital after the boy fell down while playing on a swing and sustained injuries on his left hand on April 8, 2013.

After examination, the doctor put a plaster on his hand, the SHO said.

Jainendra later developed some infection in his hand following which he was again taken to the same hospital. This time, the doctor diagnosed it as gangrene and advised surgery.

The teenager's hand was amputated to stop the gangrene from spreading to other parts of the body, the SHO said.

Dissatisfied with the doctor's treatment, the family approached police who wrote to DMB to investigate the matter.

Based on DMB's findings, the FIR was registered, he said.

An investigation is on in the case and Dr Sahu will be interrogated, the SHO added.
