The stars of hit sci-fi TV series 'Doctor Who' brought the famous Trafalgar Square to a standstill to shoot action-packed scenes for the upcoming episodes.

Actor Matt Smith was seen dangling from a blue police box hoisted into the air by a large crane near the iconic Nelson's Column in the middle of the popular tourist attraction, reported Contactmusic.

The area was cordoned off, but a huge crowd gathered behind barriers to catch a glimpse of Smith and his co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman as they filmed the show's upcoming 50th anniversary special.

Producers are working hard to keep the episode's script under wraps, but a host of past 'Doctor Who' favourites including David Tennant and Billie Piper are rumoured to be returning.
