Following an assurance by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today, the Bihar unit of IMA has deferred for a week the proposed state-wide strike of doctors in protest against the kidnapping of a doctor couple in the state.

The strike across the state in protest against kidnapping of Doctor Pankaj Gupta and his wife has been postponed for about a week considering the assurance given by chief minister regarding recovery of the doctor couple, Working President of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Shahjanand Singh said.

However, the doctors have decided to wear black badges and stage dharna in their districts, Singh added.

Meanwhile, the chief minister held a meeting with state police chief P K Thakur and Principal Secretary Home Amir Subhani over the kidnapping of the doctor couple last Friday.

A report from Gaya said, a large number of doctors under the IMA banner and the Bihar Health Services Association (BHASA) and members of various non-political organisations like Chamber of Commerce, Inner Wheel and Rotary Club joined a protest march against the kidnapping.
