Plastic surgeons in the SCB Medical College and Hospital here are reluctant to go for the reconstruction surgery to join the severed arms of Khirod Mishra (25) apprehending dangers involved in it.

Both arms of Khirod were chopped off by a group of assailants yesterday at Balangir. Khirod was rushed here with the severed arms, but after more than 12 hours of the incident.

"With damaged muscles, smashed bones and detached arteries and veins, it will be futile to join the severed arms," said a plastic surgeon saying the severed organs were not properly preserved after they were chopped off.

Doctors here were giving priority to save the life of the youth, instead of going for the reconstruction surgery.

"However, a team of doctors drawn from several departments are discussing the management of treatment, no decision has yet been taken on reconstruction surgery," said the hospital spokesman Dr B N Moharana.

Meanwhile, reports reaching here said the Balangir police have arrested three persons and forwarded them to court over the gruesome incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that at least eight persons were involved in attacking Mishra and chopped off his arms in front of his mother.
