Junior resident doctors and nurses at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya in Geeta Colony were allegedly assaulted by a group of people after a 'premature' baby died.

The resident doctors and nurses at the hospital have gone on a strike demanding arrest of the family members of the patient, affecting health services at the only government-run children's hospital in the city.

According to hospital director Anuo Mohta, on June 14, the 'preterm' baby had died following which the grandfather, along with other family members, abused and assaulted the doctor and nurses in the ward.

"They even tried to strangulate the junior resident doctor using his stethoscope. This is not at all acceptable as the baby died due to sickness. We have filed a police complaint. The family members of the deceased baby also have filed a complaint," said Mohta.

"Patients at present admitted at the hospital are being treated by the faculty of the hospital," said Mohta.
