A 7.25 kg fibroid tumour was removed from the womb of a 39-year old woman at a private hospital in Srivilliputhur in the district.

Govindammal, mother of three children, had approached the hospital with complaint of unusually big tummy and problems in having food and doing her routine works such as walking though she did not have any pain, said Dr Mary Jenova today.

She was diagonsed to be suffering from fibroid and a team of doctors performed a surgery two days ago and removed it.

Though fibroid on the wall of uterus was a common feature, such a big tumour was a rarity, the doctor said adding the patient was recovering well after the surgery.
