In order to showcase the history of Shiromani Aakali Dal (SAD) and its leaders to the people, a documentary film would be soon made by the party, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today.
"This film would be a real tribute to all the legendary workers and leaders of the party who have rendered supreme services for the Panth, party and the state," he said.
Sukhbir was paying floral tributes to veteran Akali leader Jagdev Singh Talwandi at his native Raikot village, near here.
Former president of the SAD and Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee, Talwandi had died at Ludhiana on September 19 at the age of 86.
The SAD is not an ordinary party but it has a glorious saga of supreme sacrifices made by its leaders and workers, Sukhbir said.
The life of Talwandi was a 'one of the golden pages' of this saga, the SAD chief said.
He said that Talwandi was the torchbearer of SAD, who was source of inspiration for the new brand of Akali leaders about the rich past of the party.
Sukhbir said that it was a matter of pride for every Akali worker and leader that a great leader like Talwandi had once headed SAD of great martyrs and heroes.
He said that the trio comprising Chief Minister and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal, late SGPC head Gurcharan Singh Tohra and Talwandi have struggled a lot and made enormous sacrifices to strengthen the party, due to which the Akalis were enjoying the fruits of power today.
On the occasion, CM Badal announced to give 'Minister rank' to the widow of Talwandi.
"The state government will soon issue a notification for providing all the facilities given to a Minister of the Punjab government to Mohinder Kaur, the wife of Talwandi," the Chief Minister said.
Badal said that a befitting memorial in the memory of Talwandi would also be erected after consultation with the members of the bereaved family.
Talwandi was also a minister of state in the first non-Congress government in Punjab in 1967. Talwandi served as state minister twice. He was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and Lok Sabha in 1977.
