Dolphin RFID, developer of radio frequency identification and security solutions, has joined hands with Esbee Dynamed to leverage the power of automated identification technology for the healthcare sector.

Esbee is a provider of surgical instruments and medical devices to top hospitals across India. Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects.

Globally, healthcare is among the largest spenders in RFID technology with over USD 2 billion being spent per year.

"...Dolphin and Esbee partnership will enable hospitals to ensure that right devices travel to operation theatres at the right time and enable saving of hundreds of dollars of clinical time per minute and more importantly, human lives," Dolphin RFID President and CEO SK Sawhney said in a statement here.

As per AMR research, about 20 per cent of a hospital's mobile assets (on average) are lost or stolen during their useful lifetime. The average cost works out to more than USD 3000 per item, Sawhney said.

"The collaboration with Dolphin will further strengthen our commitment of providing the best medical equipment and also bringing the best technology to Indian hospitals," Aditya Bawa, Director, Esbee, said.

"With RFID tracking of medical devices and surgical equipment, hospital assets and patient's records, there would be a significant enhancement in administering healthcare services.
