Zinc prices surged by 0.43 per cent to Rs 187.60 per kg in futures trade today as participants built up positions, taking positive cues from the domestic spot markets.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in February rose by 80 paise, or 0.43 per cent, to Rs 187.60 per kg, in a business turnover of 217 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month March edged up by 70 paise, or 0.37 per cent, to Rs 187.90 per kg in five lots.

Analysts said a firming trend in base metals at the domestic spot markets on the back of pick up in demand, drove the upside in zinc prices at futures trade here.
