Hundreds of visually-impaired persons today staged a protest against the Centre's move to pass the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill through ordinance route near Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's house.

Members of All India Disability Alliance (AIDA) gathered near the PM's residence at 7 Race Course Road and shouted slogans against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

The activists said they will not accept the Bill and will challenge it in the apex court if it is passed through an ordinance.

General Secretary of AIDA S K Rungnata said visually impaired people will severely suffer in the education and employment sectors if the Bill comes into effect.

"Benefits meant for severely handicap persons can be availed by someone with mild disabilities. In education blind students will face a huge setback in getting scholarships," Rungnata claimed.

The protesters also criticised Delhi police for allegedly baton-charging them on Friday when they were protesting outside All India Congress Committee headquarters.
