Maharashtra information commissioner has directed the state government that it should not call the RTI applicants to inspect the documents unnecessarily.

The order was passed following a request filed by RTI activist and former Central Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi.

In a request to the Chief Information Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, Gandhi had urged Commission to apply the rule issued by Mumbai civic corporation on June 19 which says if a person has not applied for the inspection of the documents and the information he/she has requested is not voluminous, he/she should not be asked to come for inspection of the documents.
