Amid a buzz that he was set to tie the knot with RJD chief Lalu Prasad's daughter, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand-nephew Tej Pratap Singh today insisted that his personal life and politics should not be linked.

"This is a personal matter and it should not be linked to politics. I do what my elders advise me to do and I am going as per their wishes," the 27-year-old MP from Mainpuri told reporters at Parliament.

Tej Pratap, who had recently won elections from Mainpuri after the SP supremo vacated the seat, said that merging of erstwhile constituents of Janta Dal would be a positive step.

There are reports in a section of the media that the Mainpuri MP is set to marry RJD chief's daughter early next year, indicating that this move would further strengthen political alliance between the two regional parties.

Mulayam Singh's brother and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav said marriage and political alliances are different issues and should not be linked.

When asked whether the matrimonial alliance will help bring the two former Janta Dal constituents together, Yadav said, "This is nothing but speculation.
