The Young Mizo Association (YMA) today urged the Mizoram government not to observe 'Digidhan Mela 2017' on April 14 as the day falls on Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ was crucified.
Majority of the people of Mizoram are Christians.
Central Coordination Committee, the second highest decision making authority of the YMA, also condemned the Centre for selecting that date for Digidhan Mela, a statement by the YMA said.
Selection of Good Friday, a sacred day for the Christians, as the day for observation of the Digidhan Mela was against the spirit of secularism, the YMA said.
