Donation boxes of Kamakhya Temple withdrawn

Donation boxes at the famed Kamakhya temple here was withdrawn today by Kamakhya Debutter Board to prevent black money from being deposited following demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Sources in the board, which administers the affairs of the tantric Shakti Pith, said all the donation boxes kept at different locations in the temple premises atop Nilachal Hill were removed as a preventive measure.

The board, the sources said, did not want people to make donations with their unaccounted money to the temple that has thousands of devotees paying obeisance to Goddesses Kamakhya.

Kamakhya Temple complex consists of several temples around the main temple including those of Goddesses Bhuvaneshvari, Bagalamukhi, Chinnamasta, Tripura Sundari, Tara, Kali, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Matangi and Kamala.
