Donations distributed among the needy

: A donation of above Rs nine lakh received from devotees of St Lawrence in Attur in Karkala near here was distributed among the poor and needy yesterday.

The amount was collected from two money-collection boxes, kept near the shrine during the annual feast, which was held from January 25 to 29.

The beneficiaries numbering above a thousand, included physically, mentally challenged, aged people, children and other weaker sections of society.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Catholic Diocese, said that St. Lawrence had special compassion for the poor and his work was being carried on at the Attur shrine for many years.
 

Parish priest Fr George D'Souza, Assistant priest Charles Louis, Secretary Santhosh D'Silva, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, John D'Silva, former Vice President Prakash Pinto and others were present.
