Dooars clash: GJM leaders granted interim bail

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung and four of its top leaders have been granted interim bail by a Jalpaiguri court in a case of violence in the Dooars in 2009.

The others, who were granted interim bail, are GJM general secretary Roshan Giri, assistant secretary Binay Tamang, Gurung's wife and Nari Morcha leader Asha and Ramesh Alley.

The GJM leaders along with 30,00 supporters are facing charges under various sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, in connection with the clash on January 16, 2009, with members of Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad.

The GJM workers had violated prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC and clashed with ABAVP activists and police. Police vehicles were ransacked, policemen were injured in the clash.
 

However, none of the five GJM leaders had been arrested.
