Doshit urges elders to protect child rights

"The children are the wealth of the country and efforts should be made to get the best out of them for the benefit of the younger generation and the soceity at large," she said while delivering a valedictory address at the two-day seminar on the 'Child Rights and Law'.

"It is the responsbilility of the elders to play the role of tutors to harness the talent of the children so that the very best could be brought out of them," Justice Doshit said.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Anjana Prakash stressed on strict implementation of various legislations aimed at securing the rights of the children by the executive arms of the government.

 

"There are a number of legislations in place to protect the rights of the children...It is time that all these acts amied at securing the rights of the children and juveniles are strictly enforced by the executive agencies, she said."

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairman Justice (Rtd) S N Jha said that the children have right to live with dignity as any other citizens and said that it was the job of the state and other stake holders to protect the right of the children as per the law of the land.

The law, media, civil society and the government are collective stake holders of the child rights and all of them should work in coordination to ensure that the children lived a dignified life, he said.
