Doubling of Madurai-Tuticorin rly line to decongest traffic

Ahead of the proposed Tuticorin- Madurai Industrial corridor, Rs 100 crore, including Rs 70 crore internal funding, has been allocated for the doubling of Madurai-Tuticorin section in the railway budget, Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Kumar Gard said today.

Besides, Rs 20 crore had been allocated fora new line between Madurai and Tuticorin Viaz. Aruppukottai, he said.

Talking about the railway budget proposals, he said for the doubling of the track from Madurai to Tuticorin Rs.30 crore had been allocated in budget. Besides Rs.70 crore would be raised from internal funding.

The doubling of the track and the new line would decongest rail traffic and improve the freight movement from Tuticorin port.
 

He also said an allocation of Rs.80 crorehad been made for gauge conversion in Pollachi-Coimbatore section,which is part of Dindigul-Pollachi-Palakkad/coimbatore conversion project.

He said the Silambu Express from Chennai Egmore to Manamadurai would be extended upto Shencottah.
