Hollywood star Michael Douglas's role of Andrew Shepherd from 1995's 'The American President' has been named the greatest fictional character in a movie.

In a list of the 20 best fake authority figures by Fortune magazine, Douglas's presidential character in the rom-com has bagged the top spot.

"In the face of sinking approval ratings and partisan attacks, President Andrew Shepherd manages to rise above the political fray and stick to his guns on environmental protection, crime and even his budding relationship with lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade," Fortune stated in the article about the list.

Other noteworthy characters on the list include Tom Hanks' Captain Miller from 'Saving Private Ryan', George Clooney's Danny Ocean from the 'Oceans Eleven' remake and 'Legally Blonde' protagonist Elle Woods among others.
