A local court has awarded life imprisonment to three members of a family for killing a woman as she was unable to fulfil their dowry demands.

Additional Session Judge L D Solanki yesterday awarded the sentence to the victim's husband Vijay Mahajan (38), mother-in-law Chandrakala Mahajan (60) and sister-in-law Anita Gupta (37), on the basis of evidence and witnesses produced by the prosecution, a court official said today.

According to the prosecution, the victim was brought to hospital in a burnt condition on March 12, 2013. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

The postmortem report confirmed death due to burn injuries.

During the probe, it was also established that she was set on fire by the trio as she was unable to meet their dowry demands.
