Sacked he might have been by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) but Dr P S M Chandran still maintains that the pregnancy test conducted on the World Championships-bound boxers was "unjustified".

"According to me the pregnancy tests were unwarranted and unjustified as the rules did not mandate such pregnancy tests," Chandran today said in a statement.

SAI had yesterday terminated the services of Chandran as its medical consultant with immediate effect "for gross indiscipline and spreading disinformation" following the controversy surrounding the pregnancy tests on the women boxers.

"I have come to know from the media that the Sports Authority of India has terminated my contract as a consultant with immediate effect. The reason given is that I have gone public with my objections on subjecting unmarried girl boxers to pregnancy tests. Boxing India and SAI argued that such tests are in order and they have been doing it in the past too.

"Today my services stands terminated by SAI. There are no charges of corruption, dishonesty, sexual harassment, dereliction of duty, incompetence, lack of integrity on my part to warrant such termination. My only fault is that I was bold enough to come forward to expose sports officials who were unethically demeaning the honour and right to privacy of young girls who have come to boxing," Chandran said.
