DRG jawans shoots himself dead

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, police said.

Constable Soyam Ramesh (30) ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle at his camp in Chintagufa police station area, located around 500 kms away from Raipur, Sukma Additional Superintendent of Shalabh Kumar Sinha old PTI.

"When Ramesh's colleagues heard the gunshot, they rushed to the place and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead," he said.

The exact reason behind his extreme step was yet to be ascertained, he said.

 

Police have registered a case in this connection and a probe has been launched.

DRG is the anti-Naxal unit of Chhattisgarh Police.

Later, the 'Muktanjali' mortuary van, in which Ramesh's body was being taken to his native Errabor village in the district, overturned near Kerlapal after the driver lost control over the vehicle, he said.

However, nobody was injured in the incident, Sinha said.

Soon after being alerted, another vehicle was rushed to the spot for their assistance, he added.
