DRI seizes 636 kg cannabis in AP

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today said they have seized 636 kgs of cannabis worth Rs 63.6 lakh in Visakhapatnam district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and nabbed two persons.

Based on specific information that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, the DRI officers launched an operation and intercepted a four-wheeler in Anakapalli, a suburb of Visakhapatnam, on November 11 and found 636 kgs of cannabis in the vehicle.

The DRI Hyderabad Zonal Unit said in a release the contraband was destined to Tamil Nadu.

They seized the contraband under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
 

"Two persons, including the driver of the vehicle, found involved in the illegal transport of the ganja have been apprehended and further investigation is on," the release added.
