To avoid any untoward electricity-related incidents during monsoon, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) has launched a 'safety inspection -cum-awareness' drive in its operational area in North and North-West Delhi.

"Leakage checks have been conducted at close to 33,500 locations within the distribution area. The drive includes safety inspection of 29,764 equipment (poles, feeder pillars, fencings, etc.), 1,505 checks at ATMs (leakages due to faulty/ frayed internal wiring of banks touching metallic gates/ shutters) of various banks," an official statement said.

"The drive also covered 2,094 MCD parks (leakages or open joints of installations) and high mast lights (open joints or wirings at accessible positions and leakages in the pole)," it added.

Seventy-one Safety Awareness Sessions at various schools have been conducted, thereby reaching out to 32,000 children.

"During the session, the representatives appealed to students not to fly kites near any electrical installation. Students were informed that the metal-coated kite 'Manjha' is a good conductor of electricity, hence, its use may prove dangerous, even life threatening as it may cause electrocution," it said.

"During the weekend covering Independence Day, special teams and volunteers will be keeping a constant vigil in all areas to ensure that no untoward accidents shall take place, especially during monsoon wherein the most of number electrical accidents usually occur," it added.
