A jeep driver allegedly decamped with Rs 50 lakh cash, which was part of a collection by a group of businessmen from Katni who were travelling in his vehicle, police said today.

The incident took place last night when the driver, identified as Ramdeen, fled with the vehicle taking away with him the cash collected by four traders from different retailers, said Shahdol SP Girdhar Gopal Pandey.

The traders were collecting money from a person near New Gandhi square here when Ramdeen decamped with the jeep, he said.

Ramdeen was arrested today from Dindori after various police teams launched a hunt for him in adjoining Umaria, Anupur, Dindori, and Rewa districts, and Rs 12 lakh was recovered from his possession, the SP said.
