A car driver was arrested today and seized over Rs four lakh worth electronic gadgets and cell phones from him, which were stolen from parked cars over a period of time in the city.
Radhakrishnan, a native of Mettur in Salem and working as temporary car driver in various travels, was stopped by police during a routine vehicle check in the city.
Growing suspicious over his behaviour, police searched the car and found five cell phones, one lap top and two Apple Ipadss, police said.
On interrogation, Radhakrishnan said to have confessed that he was stealing these articles from the parked cars and used to send to his home town and the houses of relatives, police said.
The modus operandi was to break open the car windows at places of large public concentration like hospitals, bus stand and he was involved in seven such crimes for the last one year, they said.
Search in his and relatives' houses yielded more articles, including cash Rs 1.4 lakh, two lap tops, four cellphones and on Ipas, all worth over Rs four lakh, police said.
