A Mahila court here today sentenced a driver and his paramour each to double life imprisonment for the murdering a woman with whom he was having a relationship.

Mahila court judge S Krishnan charged them under IPC Sections 120(b), (Punishment of criminal conspiracy), 302 (Punishment for murder) and 449 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life) and also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 each on them.

The sentences will run concurrently, the judge said.

The 25-year-old driver was having a relationship with a flower vendor, a married woman with four children and later with a woman shop owner, mother to three sons.

Irked by the shop owner reportedly having a relationship with another man, the duo hatched a conspiracy to kill her. They went to her shop on September 22 2008, slit her neck with a blade and fled the spot. Her eldest son, who returned from school, found his mother lying dead, informed the neighbours, who alerted police.

Investigations led to the arrest of the two persons.
