: The Madras High Court bench has advised drivers to approach the Judicial Magistrates concerned to get back their driving licences seized following their involvement in road accidents.
Justice S Vaidhyanathan, disposing petitions from them seeking a direction to Regional Transport Officers to return the licences, directed the RTOs to hand over the licenses to police officials, who in turn should hand them over to JMs with due acknowledgement.
The drivers could approach the JMs to get back the licences. However the magistrates would decide on returning the licences by exercising powers conferred on them under Section 206(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, the judge said.
