Drought, summber rain result in agriculture loss

A total of ten people have died in rain related incidents in different parts of the state in the last two weeks, official sources said today.

The drought situation prevailing in the state and frequent summber rains have resulted in agricultire loss to a tune of Rs.200 crores, they said.

During an interaction with district collectors to review the situation, Chief Minister Oomen Chandy had said situation was such that immediate help has to be rendered to people affected by rain and drought.

The Chief Minister had also instructed authorities to chalk out plans to help the people and steps would be taken to release more amount needed for relief works, they said.
 

State Minister for Revenue Adoor Prakash, Water Resources Minister P J Joseph and senior officers attended the meeting.
