Drug haul: Remands of three accused extended

The remands of three of the accused, arrested in connection with the drug haul in which boxer Vijender Singh's name had cropped up, were today extended by a local court till March 23.

Amandeep Singh, Manpreet Singh and Gabbar Singh were produced before the court after the duration of their remands expired today, police said.

Raids are being conducted to arrest kingpin of gang Jagdish Singh Bhola, a senior police officer said, adding the process for getting blood and hair samples of Vijender has been initiated.

While Amandeep was already in a Chandigarh jail and was brought on production warrant, Manpreet Singh and Gabbar Singh were arrested during course of investigation.
 

A total of 11 persons are currently under custody in connection with the case.

The names of Olympic medallist Vijender Singh and his close friend and sparring partner Ram Singh had emerged after the unearthing of heroin worth Rs 130 crore from Fatehgarh Sahib at an NRI's Anoop Singh flat in Zirakpur.
