Karnataka Excise Department would carry out operations aimed at checking the menace of drugs among the student community, state Excise Minister R B Timmapur said today.
After a review meeting of department officials, Timmapur told reporters that steps would be taken tostrengthen district-level implementation committees of the department which would work with principals and school managements to help students get out of their addiction.
He said it had been noticed that peddlers weretargeting school and colleges and ganja was being freely soldat many places.

The department had been directed to strictlydeal with cases relating to ganja and drugs.
Six cases had been registered relating to drug peddling in Mangaluru division and 25.28 kg of ganja wasseized during the year 2016-17.
The problem of staff shortage in the division would be solved soon by filling up remaining vacancies, he said.
The department expected a revenue of Rs 18,005 crore during the current year, of which 8,350 crore had already been collected, he said.
