Drug peddler arrested with 6 kg opium

A drug trafficker was arrested and 6 kg of opium brought from Bareilly in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh was seized from him, police said today.

Working on specific inputs, the Crime Branch of Delhi police laid a trap at Anand Vihar ISBT and caught the drug peddler Jaswant Singh (60), a resident of Sultanpuri, and seized 6 kg of fine quality opium from him that is estimated to be worth Rs 9 lakh in the international market, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Police, Ravindra Yadav said.

Jaswant's area of operation was learnt to be near Gurudwaras Rakab Ganj and Bangla Sahib, besides Sultanpuri and Mangolpuri and other parts of the city.
 

He had indulged in illicit trade allegedly in the garb of a Sewadar. He procured narcotic substances from Bareilly in UP and Punjab and brought it to Delhi, Yadav said.

"His brother Avtar Singh Verma was a dreaded terrorist of Khalistan Liberation Front who had died in an encounter with police in Ganganagar, Rajasthan in 1986," he added.
