Drug peddler held with 10 kg poppy straw in J&K

An alleged drug peddler, hailing from Punjab, was today arrested after 10 kg poppy straw, a narcotic substance, was recovered from his vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, police said.

Bakshi Singh, a resident of Ludhiana in Punjab, was on way to Jammu in his private car when he was stopped for checking near Jawahar Tunnel, the gateway to Kashmir, a police officer said.

He said the search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 kg of poppy straw.

The drug peddler was arrested and booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the officer said.
