Drug peddler held with 18 kg of poppy straw: Police

A drug peddler was today arrested in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and 18 kgs of poppy straw were recovered from his possession, the police said.

Acting on a specific information, the police set up a checkpost near the TCP Hyderbiegh in the Pattan area of the district, a police official said.

During the checking of vehicles and pedestrians, the police detained a person carrying two bags containing poppy straw weighing 18 kgs, he added.

The detained person was identified as Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of the Andergam area of Pattan, the official said.

A case was lodged in this regard and further investigations were on, he added.
