The authorities are considering filing an FIR against the drugs distributor who had supplied a consignment of antibiotic injections with vials carrying "For Animal Treatment Only" label to the MDM Hospital.

The authorities of Dr SN Medical College, under which the hospital functions, are now awaiting the report of the probe conducted by a committee formed the hospital administration. The committee completed its investigation today and submitted a report to the MDM Hospital superintendent.

"We will be receiving the report on Wednesday. Depending upon the findings and a legal opinion, we might register an FIR against the distributor firm which had supplied the 1,000 vials of Pepenum containing drug Meropenum to the hospital on June 24," SN Medical College principal K C Agarwal said.

The report of the Drug Control Department will also be received by the medical college administration on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the inquiry panel constituted by the Principal Secretary of the State Medical Education Department could not arrive here today. "The committee would arrive here on Wednesday for the inquiry," said Agarwal.

The committee comprising a professor of SMS Hospital (Jaipur), the State Drugs Controller and a specialist had been asked to submit its report within a week.

About 30 to 32 patients of the MDM Hospital had been administered 159 doses of Meropenum with vials carrying "For Animal Treatment Only" label in the past one week, the authorities said.

Deepak Verma, the administrative head of the Mathura Das Mathur (MDM) Hospital had, however, said this could be a case of wrong labelling.
