Drugs racket busted in Kakinada, eight held

The Kakinada city crime wing of the police today claimed to have busted a drugs racket after the arrest of eight people here.

An officer said that ganja and other banned drugs worth over Rs 2.5 lakh along with cash worth Rs 2 lakh were seized from the arrested accused.

According to police, the accused were in the business of selling the drugs to students and others in and around Kakinada.

"Eight people, including two rowdy sheeters, who used to secure the drugs, two couriers who used to supply it to the clients and four medical shop owners, have been arrested," East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni told reporters.
 

The four medical shop owners were identified as Dasari Satyanarayana, Kankatala Venkata Malleswerarao of Angara village, Nanduri Satyabhaskararao of Bhimavaram and Nadipudi Durgaprasad of Eluru.

"They used to sell in bulk the drugs that causes sedation and intoxication to arrested accused Bezwada Ravi (40) and Pemmadi Siva Prasad (41), both rowdy sheeters from Kakinada, who in turn supplies the drugs to two couriers- Kondepudi Bhimaraju (30) and Kampa Ramana (55)," Vishal said.

He said that police would keep a hawk's eye on the illegal drugs business operating in and around Kakinada and deal with the offenders with iron hand.

Further investigation is on.
