Principal Scientist, Horticulture, CRIDA (Central Research Institute for Dry land Agriculture), Hyderabad, Dr N N Reddy today said that the vast area of dry land in the country has the potential to feed the growing population in future.
Speaking about rain-fed horticulture and possibilities for alternative land use on the second-day of "Vaarta-An Agriculture meet here, Reddy said the productivity from cultivable land is reaching its peak. So to meet the growing demand of food production in future, there is a high expectation from dry land.
Dr Manoranjan Kumar, Senior Scientist, CRIDA delivered a lecture on small scale water storage structures, lining and gravity-based irrigation system.
MART team from Odisha interacted with farmers and gave inputs on marketing of agriculture produce. Scientists from National Agro Foundation discussed about organic farming.
The second day of Meet witnessed stimulating interactive sessions between farmers and Agriculture experts from leading institutes like CRIDA, Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), National Agro Foundation.
The day long programme saw discussions on Dry land Farming, Post-Harvest management of crops, New Technologies in Vegetable Cultivation, Wasteland Development, Water Management, Paddy Cultivation Techniques, Sericulture, Micro-nutrient application and Best Practices in Agriculture Marketing.
