The Delhi High Court today directed Delhi State Legal Services Authority to verify whether the measures taken by the Delhi Police to tackle crimes against women in the national capital are proving to be effective.

A bench of Justice B D Ahmed and Justice S Mridul impleaded Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) as a party in the PIL to co-ordinate with the city police to formulate programmes to tackle the issue.

"DSLSA shall co-ordinate with the Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, to formulate further programmes so that objectives outlined in our earlier order are met at the earliest," the bench said.

The court had in its April 16 order directed Delhi Police to file a status report indicating measures taken based on the basis of crime-mapping carried out by the agency and steps it proposes to take to bring down crimes against women.

During the day's hearing, the court directed DSLSA and police to co-ordinate with each other after perusing the status report filed by the agency stating measures taken in every district to tackle crimes against women.

The bench also said it will examine the entire status report on the next date of hearing on August 6.

It directed that a copy of the report as well as the crime-mapping done earlier be handed over to DSLSA so that they can verify the same.

The court impleaded DSLSA as party in the matter after advocate Gaurav K Bansal, who filed the PIL, contended the status report contains steps taken by Delhi Police till 2014 and that nothing has been done since April 16 order of this bench.
