Three policemen, including a DSP, were arrested for allegedly extorting money from owners of a liquor shop in the Udaipur district here.

"The complainants alleged that Deputy SP (Kotda) Manish Sharma came to their liquor shop on December 26 evening and asked policemen (a sub-inspector and a head constable) to put bottles of beer into two cars standing outside the shop," Rajendra Goyal, Additional SP of Anti-Corruption Bureau told PTI.

"The policemen threatened the shop owners that they will frame them in a case and seize the vehicles under the Excise Act," Goyal said.

SHO Panerwa Dhul Meena and head constable Prabhu Lal led by Sharma demanded Rs 5 lakh from shop owners Gopal and Sunil for not filing any case. The shop owners gave Rs 4.70 lakh, the collection of two days, to them and promised to pay the remaining amount the next day. But despite this, Sharma seized one vehicle of the shop under the Excise Act.

Later, DSP Sharma allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh-- Rs 30,000 as due amount and Rs 70,000 as the monthly collection.

"After verification of the complaint, a trap was laid and the complainants were sent to the policemen with Rs 80,000 as bribe last night," Goyal said.

The DSP was caught while accepting the bribe at his residence, the SHO was held outside the police station whereas the head constable managed to escape and hide in a house, but he was also held," Goyal said, adding that they all were arrested.
