Haryana DGP Yash Pal Singhal today directed all 21 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), who have been designated as Nodal Officer under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to immediately start touring villages.
Singhal said the DSPs have been directed to visit one or two villages every day, meet various sections of the society, sort out their grievances on the spot and try to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
The Director General of Police (DGP) was presiding over a meeting of DSPs from all the districts here regarding various issues relating to scheduled castes, a press release issued here said.
Singhal issued guidelines for prevention of atrocities against people belonging to scheduled castes during the meet.
If a crime under SC/ST Act is reported, it should be registered immediately, he said.
It should be promptly investigated, culprits arrested and challan be put in the court without any delay, the DGP added.
The top cop also directed them to form Peace Committee in the village where there were reports of conflicts or disturbance between communities, it said.
Community Liaison Groups (CLG) have already been set up at police station-level, Singhal said.
These CLG should be activated and their meeting should be held regularly, he elaborated.
Besides these, he also directed the nodal officers to keep close liaison with sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) as well as block development and panchayat officers (BDPOs) and other district functionaries.
Earlier in the meeting, the nodal officers briefed the DGP about the situation in their districts, the release said.
