The corporation's highest single day earning was achieved yesterday when its buses ferried over 52 lakh commuters.

"We have collected a total revenue of Rs 4,05,33,660 yesterday which is the highest one-day revenue collection in the history of DTC," said a senior official of the corporation.

The previous highest single-day collection was recorded on July 9 when the collection had touched Rs 3.79 crore.

The record collection was achieved as DTC carried out a special drive by deploying senior officials across the city last month to bring overall efficiency in its operation and particularly to ensure adherence to the time-table by the bus drivers.

"The main purpose of the drive was to educate drivers about proper parking at bus stops, to guide and encourage commuters to travel with proper tickets and to catch ticketless passengers," a DTC official said.

He said the record has been achieved despite the DTC discontinuing plying of 440 over-aged buses earlier this year. DTC currently has a fleet of 6,500 CNG-run buses including 4,000 low-floor ones.

The DTC's ridership has also gone up in the month of July-August to above 16 crore as compared to 14 crore in July last year, the official said.
