Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will introduce e-ticketing machines in some of its buses on a trial basis from next month, Transport Minister Gopal Rai said today.
Rai said that after installing ETMs in all buses by April -May next year, the government will move towards common mobility cards for travelling in both DTC and Metro, which will be done on priority basis.
"DTC will charge fares from passengers through ETMs in some of its buses on a trial-basis. Once ETMs are installed by April-May, the government will start working out a plan on a common mobility card that will be applicable in both DTC buses and Metro," the minister told reporters here.
Briefing about Car-Free Day to be held in Laxmi Nagar area tomorrow, he said that the government will organise the event between Laxmi Nagar metro station and Karkari Crossing from 8 AM to 4 PM.
"During programme, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will lead a cycle rally to encourage people to use public transport. 500 Civil Defence personnel will be deployed on the car-free road stretch," the transport minister said.
He also said that 20 shuttle buses will be plied between ITO and Anand Vihar ISBT so that people won't have to face a problem while using public transport.
On November 22, the transport department had organised Car-Free Day in Dwarka area. During the event, Kejriwal had announced that Car-Free Day will be organised across the national capital and he would also cycle to his office that day.
