The University said in a statement that the "dangerous act" has led to a complete breakdown of the supply of power to the main office block.
"The University has taken a serious note of the incident and will be compelled to take appropriate legal recourse, if such an act was repeated," according to the statement.
The Delhi University Teachers Association is observing an indefinite relay hunger strike against "dictatorial ways" of the Vice Chancellor.
To drive home their point, the protesters yesterday tried screening the Charlie Chaplin comedy 'The Great Dictator' in the campus, however, due to power disruptions the film was not screened.
Outraged over the incident some of the protesting students and teachers decided to spend the night outside Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh's office.
The University today condemned the disregard for propriety shown by a handful of teachers and some "misguided" students by direct tapping of power from high tension wires.
