A Delhi University professor has been chosen for a coveted award of Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) for his contributions to research in the field.

"Professor Rama Kant, working with DU's Department of Chemistry, has been chosen for the coveted award for his various contributions to research in the field of Chemical Science," an official notification said.

The Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), founded by Bharat Ratna awardee CNR Rao, annually recognises and awards individuals contributing to the field of chemical sciences.

The professor, along with 23 other awardees, will receive the 'CSRI medal of honour' and a citation in a ceremony scheduled to be held in February 2015.

Prof. Kant has contributed significantly to theoretical understanding of the electrochemical phenomena on rough and heterogeneous electrodes.

"I have also worked upon generalisation of several fundamental equations of electro chemistry for the rough electrodes and chronoamperometry on rough electrodes," he told PTI.

He has also developed a novel method for quantitative roughness characterisation and 3D reconstruction of electrode surface using cyclic voltammetry and SEM image.

The 51-year-old professor who joined Delhi University's Chemistry Department in 2003 has also taught at the University of Freiburg in Germany and University of Leeds in the UK.
