Press Trust of India New Delhi
Delhi University today entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PHD Chamber and IamSMEofIndia to provide IT infrastructure to micro, small and medium level enterprises.

The project, called 'IT-Maha Abhiyaan' is an initiative of PHD Chamber to build capacities of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) by making them IT ready through an alliance of IamSMEofIndia and Cluster of Innovation (CIC) of the Delhi University.

On the occasion, DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh said there is a need to focus more on MSMEs instead of large scale industries.

Singh, who was the Chief Guest at the event, said that concentration on a handful of large industries gives rise to migration, such "social upheaval" is not always beneficial. He also emphasised on encouragement to MSMEs across the country.

"A few heavy industries in a huge country like ours would be like a few drops in the ocean, if you want reach, reach the micro level. And going to every village, home and door would only be possible if resources for that would be made available there," he said.

Drawing references from Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindra Nath Tagore's teachings, Singh said that education system should not confine students within classroom walls and they should have a first hand experience at work to benefit the society.

"The students will apply the knowledge that they are picking up with us into a practical situation. When the knowledge gets into action, as Gandhiji has said, then it enters into your heart and you become a better and more productive person and society benefits," said Singh.

Director IamSMEofIndia, Rajive Chawla, said the MoU is "a win-win situation" as it would on one hand help the MSMEs inculcate technology and become more productive, on the other hand, it would make the students from DU "industry ready" and train them for the market.

"The sector lacks IT support that has created gaps. We all need to be networked to fulfil this gap," Chawla added.

Jatinder Singh, Secretary PHD Chamber and Madan Mohan Chaturvedi, Director CIC were also present during the signing of the MoU.
