Delhi BJP today urged Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to call for a probe by a central agency into the case of suicide by Delhi University staffer Pavitra Bhardwaj.

In a letter to Jung, BJP also requested him to legally advise the DU vice chancellor to revoke the order reinstating BR Ambedkar College principal Dr GK Arora, who was alleged by Bhardwaj to have sexually and mentally harassed her.

"(Delhi BJP unit) chief Satish Upadhyay has written to the LG demanding a probe by a central agency into the Bhardwaj case and also requested him to legally advise the VC to revoke the order reinstating principal Dr Arora," the party said in a statement here.

The move by BJP came after a delegation of teaching and non-teaching staff from BR Ambedkar College today met Upadhyay.

The delegation expressed deep concern over the possible closure report being filed by Delhi Police in the case, the statement added.

Bhardwaj, who succumbed to burn injuries after setting herself on fire on October 7 last year, had alleged sexual and mental harassment by Arora and another staff member.

Thereafter, Arora was suspended on October 11 by the DU administration till the completion of a judicial probe into the case. DU, however, revoked the suspension of principal Arora earlier this year.
