Delhi University teachers today met UGC secretary and raised the issue of pending promotions and the varsity's decision to challenge the High Court judgement on pension issue.

A delegation of DU teachers under the aegis of Academics for Action and Development (AAD) met UGC secretary and Director (Administration) and apprised them about the hardships faced by thousands of their colleagues.

"The delegation met UGC secretary Dr JS Sandhu and Vikram Sahay, Director (Administration) and apprised them about the hardships faced by thousands of DU teachers awaiting promotions owing to the decision of the university to implement the service conditions of sixth pay retrospectively on the directions of the UGC," said Aditya Narain Mishra, Member of the varsity's Executive council (EC).

The delegation also brought to the notice of the officials the six pending cases of promotions from Associate Professor to Professor, which requires clearance from UGC, he added.

In its meeting of August 17 last year, Executive Council rightly decided to implement the New Promotion Scheme prospectively.

This decision of EC was based on the fact that the report of the UGC's revisit committee had finally come out with modifications on service conditions only as late as July 13, 2013.

The delegation also raised the issue of the varsity's decision to challenge the high court judgement on the pension issue.
